It's Not Too Late to Aspire! We are so excited about the great response to the Aspire Community Studio! We had over 150 attendees at our Grand Opening on January 2nd and have over 230 participants in our first session of classes! We've just started week 2 of Session 1. Don't worry if you didn't register, there is still room in most classes and we have prorated the cost for Session 1 so that you are not paying for the days that you already missed out on! You can still register for a Session 1 program and pay as little as $6/class! or learn more about Aspire at:
The Aspire Newsletter The first edition of the Aspire Newsletter was emailed earlier this week. It was sent to registered participants and those that opted to receive the newsletter when they registered at the Grand Opening. The newsletter will highlight past events, remind you about upcoming classes, feature new classes and have an occasional promo code or giveaway. We anticipate sending the newsletter, on average, once a month. We promise to never send a newsletter more than twice in the same month.   Click here to view the last newsletter.   Click here to subscribe to the newsletter.
Seeking Contestants for Essex Has Talent Competition If you can sing, dance, play an instrument, juggle, do acrobatics or have another special talent, this is the opportunity to show your ability to the Essex Community.  Essex Junction Recreation and Parks is teaming up with the Essex High School Red Cross Club to host the Third Annual Essex Has Talent Competition on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 7 PM at the Essex High School Auditorium. The competition will feature four age groups, including a junior category for grades K-8, a teen category for grades 9-12, an adult category for people over the age of 18, and, new this year, a family category for an A\adult performing with one or more children under the age of 18.  Each category will be judged individually with prizes awarded to the top performance, based on stage presence, talent or technical skills, creativity/originality, appearance, audience appeal and overall entertainment.  There will be great prizes for each category. Entry forms are available at the Essex Junction Recreation and Parks Office, or can be downloaded below.  All entries must be received by Friday, January 13th to be eligible for the competition.   All entries will be assigned an audition date to compete for a spot in the performance.  Auditions will be on either January 25 or 26, between the hours of 3-7 PM.  Contestants will be notified of the time of their audition.   For more information call 878-1375.
Do You Aspire? Do you aspire to improve your health? ...to make new friends? ...to lose a few pounds?
Do you aspire to become stronger physically? ...to be stronger mentally?
Do you aspire to to be graceful on the dance floor? ...to step out on a dance floor? EJRP aspires to promote lifelong health and wellbeing, to provide diverse learning experiences, and to provide affordable and accessible programs. After 18 months of full Zumba classes and tight facility schedules we aspired to find a more tranquil room for yoga, a more spacious space for Zumba, and a better floor for dance. We also aspired to find more great instructors, offer a wider variety of classes, provide easier access to our programs, and make our programs more affordable than ever. Introducing the Aspire Community Studio!
Maple Street Bike Park Information Committee leaders
Kahlil Zaloom and Andrew Cimonetti Committee History
Our committee was formed in February of 2010 to explore the possibility of building a bicycle freestyle terrain park in Essex Junction. The committee members include staff of Essex Junction Recreation and Parks department, an EJRP recreation advisory boardmember, a professional mountain bike rider and course designer, and approximately 35 community members of varying ages from grade school to adults. What is a freestyle bike park
Freestyle bike parks contain a variety of jumps, banked turns (berms), pump tracks and wooden features that can be ridden with a freestyle mountain bike or BMX bike. These features will be built with the specific geography of the property in mind and for riders all ability levels. Plans for the proposed park include 2 pump tracks, and several dirt jump lines ranging from beginner to expert level. The wooded section of property behind the skatepark would make for a very unique riding experience and make for a relatively low maintenance park. Please see the photo gallery below for illustrations of typical features in a bike park.

Don’t let the winter doldrums get you down! Join us for an evening of fun and games.  We will have craft activities, board games, rock-climbing, basketball, volleyball and more.  There will something that every member of the family can enjoy!  This free event is a great opportunity to play together as a family and to meet other people in the community.
