Amy, I really like the idea of having a way for people to know how busy the pool is before coming. We tally all entrances and exits; however, it wouldn't be feasible to have our staff constantly update that info live on the internet. It is information that we'd be happy to share with anyone that calls the pool. Perhaps a camera is the easiest solution for people to quickly see how busy the pool is (as well as what areas are busy, the weather, etc.). We will definitely discuss this for next summer, though the concerns and limitations noted earlier about installing a webcam still exist.

Along the lines of the webcam comment... I too would like to know how busy the pool is before going sometimes. How about an online ticker or a counter of the number of folks who have entered and maybe even the times? The exit would be harder to track.

I like to thank Stephanie (Level 1) coach for spending time with my son. My son's swimming improved a lot after being trained by Stephanie. It is too bad that today is her last day with my son.

Diane, pool rental hours are limited due to our public swim hours, swim lessons and aquatic programs. The pool is available for rentals from 8-9pm many evenings through July. It is also available for rentals on Sunday mornings prior to 11am. Rentals are hourly: $75/hr for residents of the Village, $150/hr for non-residents (up to 50 swimmers). The prices increase based on the anticipated size of your party. Please contact us at 878-1375 to discuss your needs and pool availability. We hope to have better information about facility reservations on our website in the future. Thanks!

What hours can somebody rent the pool for a birthdays, business get together, ect? Is there different pricing for non profit groups? Is there a time limit for each reservation such as only 1.5 or two hours? Are there basic rates?

Ashley, Yes, adult swim is the last quarter of the hour at 1:45, 2:45, 3:45 and 4:45 (plus a 12:45 adult swim on Saturday & Sunday). http://www.ejrp.org/home/maple-street-pool/item/436-pool-faq

I was wondering if there was an adult only time for swim, or a time when less children would be around?

Megan, the Sand Hill pool is run by the Essex Town Parks & Recreation Department. Maple Street Pool is run by us (the Essex Junction Recreation & Parks Department). Because they are run by different departments we are unable to accept Sand Hill passes at the Maple Street Pool. You would need to purchase a season pass, 7-day pass, or pay daily admission at Maple Street.

  • Comment Link Wednesday, 29 June 2011 12:33 posted by Meagan

So, my colleague and I take care of two austistic children and their parents bought us all season passes to the Sand Hill pool. Are we allowed to use those passes at Maple St Pool as well. My colleague has been harassed, on several occasions, by one of the older lifeguards at Sand Hill and we would rather not go there again.

Mackenzie, I'm not sure if you are inquiring about a membership or daily admission. In either case, please explain your situation to the person who is processing the payment. If you have further questions feel free to email me at rhegreness@ccsuvt.org

BBecause I am a minor, i dont have proof that i live here. I do t attend essex schos because during the schoolyear i live in Bennington Vermont. But now that its summer, i live in Essex. So does that change anything

  • Comment Link Ryan Hegreness Wednesday, 22 June 2011 22:23 posted by Ryan Hegreness

Meredith, that would be cool! The thought has occurred to me before. While it would be nice to see how busy the pool is, I would imagine there may be some privacy concerns (depending on the placement and quality of the video). A good aerial view of the pool and park would be great, but setup becomes complicated (and more expensive) due to limitations of how far data can travel via USB. I think it is a great idea that can be investigated more, but I don't anticipate a webcam being installed this summer.

  • Comment Link Wednesday, 22 June 2011 14:20 posted by Meredith

I was thinking that it'd be cool to install a webcam so people at home could see how busy the pool is (so we could avoid it on the super busy days, or decide to swing by on a less busy afternoon). Any possibility of that happening this season?

Mary, We are not hiring at this time. You are welcome to apply to be a lifeguard next summer. We begin accepting applications in February.

  • Comment Link Tuesday, 21 June 2011 18:18 posted by Mary

Hello, I just got my life guarding license and really need a summer job. Are you guys still hiring for lifeguards, if so how can I apply?

  • Comment Link Ryan Hegreness Tuesday, 21 June 2011 08:13 posted by Ryan Hegreness

Your residency is based on your primary place of residence at the time of the program/visit. If you are able to show documentation that you live within the Village (a license, bill, etc.) then you would get the resident rates for membership or the discount for daily admission.

I live out of town during the school year but in town during summer. Would I qualify as a resident when i visit the pool or not?

Kim you should check out the Town Pool on Sand Hill. Non-resident family pass is only $81 for the season.

I found out the info, through another phone call (not to the pool, because no one answered there), but it might be good to have a list of your facilities on the website, i.e., lockers or no, changing area, showers, family rooms, etc. That would make things much easier for first time visitors to plan.

  • Comment Link Ryan Hegreness Thursday, 16 June 2011 10:42 posted by Ryan Hegreness

Kristin, I appreciate your input and understand your position. The rates are lower for Village residents because their tax dollars support this facility. We believe that Maple Street Pool is a tremendous value for anyone that uses it regularly. For those who use the pool less frequently we offer 7-day passes and daily admission.

  • Comment Link Wednesday, 15 June 2011 12:12 posted by Kristin Quiet

Sorry, $60.00. It is still too much!

  • Comment Link Wednesday, 15 June 2011 12:10 posted by Kristin Quiet

I just want to say that I think an extra $70.00 for non-residents is ridiculous! I may not pay taxes in Essex, but I do in Westford, and we don't have a public pool, so it's not like I have an option. I will not be purchasing season passes for us this year because I think the cost is outrageous!

  • Comment Link Ryan Hegreness Friday, 10 June 2011 13:46 posted by Ryan Hegreness

Nicole, we offer subsidies for Village residents with financial needs. Applications are available at the office at 75 Maple Street.

  • Comment Link Friday, 10 June 2011 12:59 posted by Nicole

Hello, I have some neighbors that are lower-income, larger families. Does your pool offer any type of subsidy applications for seasonal passes?

  • Comment Link Ryan Hegreness Thursday, 09 June 2011 13:58 posted by Ryan Hegreness

Phil, we increased the non-resident rates (for passes and daily admission) a few years ago. We will not be making changes to our advertised rates this summer. We do evaluate our rates each year, so the topic will be discussed by our staff prior to next summer. Thanks!

  • Comment Link Thursday, 09 June 2011 07:53 posted by Phil

I appears that the Burlington Free Press is advertising the pool as an option from the lake in today's paper. Have you given any thought to increased the non-resident fees. It seems there should be a greater differance between the two given the amount of taxes paid by local residents.

Question about the 7 day passes... does it have to be used 7 consecutive days, or any 7 days during the summer? Thanks

  • Comment Link Ryan Hegreness Monday, 06 June 2011 12:18 posted by Ryan Hegreness

Lisa, the hours posted apply to both pools. I do understand that opening earlier would be more convenient for those with young children who need naps. Due to our busy swim lesson program we are unable to open earlier on the weekdays. Hopefully the little ones can visit the pool after nap time and on the weekends when we open an hour earlier.

  • Comment Link Sunday, 05 June 2011 07:56 posted by Lisa

Are the hours the same for the kiddie pool as well? Most little ones are ready to start napping by 12:30.

    Hey,
No offence but I think you guys should start opening the pool on may 29 2:50 to 6,7,or 8, because alot of people realy want to go swimming already (including me...) but the pool isn't open. Im just giving a tip.
    Thanks!

Karen, glad to hear your family is ready to swim! Weather and water temperature are two big considerations, as our pool is not heated. This year I believe we are opening a week sooner than we have in recent years. We will give your suggestion some thought as we make plans for next year. Thanks!

Thank you for providing this forum, in the past its been hard to tell the hours/rules etc of the pool so this will be a great place to come and get that info. While I understand that you use the school kids for staffing i have found that by memorial day each year my family and i really starting to get the taste of summer and would love to be able to utilize the pool. Is there any possibility in the future that you would be able to open the pool on the weekends only starting on Memorial Day until June 11th when you open officially. That way you would still be able to use the school kids and there would be a more clear cut time of year that the pool is open. Just a suggestion! We really enjoy the Maple Street Pool and Recreational Areas! Thank You

Renee, a season pass gets you in for public swim (12:15-8pm, M-F & 11am-8pm, Sat/Sun) from June 11-August 28. You must register separately for swim lessons (morning or evening). There is a fee for lessons. See the Summer 2011 Camp & Swim Brochure for details.

  • Comment Link Friday, 04 March 2011 18:14 posted by Renee

Is swimming lessons part of the season pass, or do you have to pay for the season pass and swim lessons?

  • Comment Link Ryan Hegreness Friday, 27 August 2010 21:56 posted by Ryan Hegreness

Kathy & Yvonne, it would be great to extend the season, especially given the warm weather predicted for next week. Unfortunately there are a few things that prohibit us from doing that. First, it is very difficult to staff the pool in late August as many of our lifeguards (and managers) have already headed back to school. Secondly, extending the season extends the operational costs of the pool, while use at this time of year decreases (even on the warmer days). Lastly, this year we have additional maintenance and repairs scheduled to take place before we close and winterize the pool. Sorry we can't help you stay cool for an extra week. We hope you've enjoyed the pool this summer!

I agree with Kathy. I would love to be able to bring my kids on Monday. After school hours next week would be awesome, too!

Mike, the pool closed early on Thursday because we were holding a celebration for our summer staff that evening. We had notices posted at the pool the week leading up to the event; however, we did not post anything on our website. My apologies for that. That would have been a good idea.

Family Swim is an hour (5-6pm) dedicated to families. Children who are not at the pool with their family must leave Maple Street Pool at 5pm.
