Hello! At the West Street Gardens (both new and existing gardens), the soil is sandy. We rototilled the new garden last summer, planted a cover crop, and rototilled it again this fall. Both sites will be tilled again this spring. It would probably be best if you added your own organic matter or compost this spring before planting. As far as registering, you can call the office at 878-1375 and JoAnn will assist you in reserving a garden spot. The fee for a garden is $30 for a resident and $50 for a non-resident.

    Hi EJRP,

I'm interested in a spot at the West Street gardens. Any idea (for a new garden) what the soil looks like, and how much work will be involved on my part to get it ready for planting? Also - how would I register? I don't already have online access and saw the form to fill out. However it lists a payment required but not spot for what program. Is there a yearly fee to use EJRP services/programs?
