The highlight of the day was off skates, when we divided up into teams for some sock derby! It's a great way to learn some of the rules of derby and get comfortable being in a pack, without worrying about the wheels on your feet. We learned about not back blocking, not using your elbows or forearms, and how not to cut the track.
Everyone had a turn being jammer and pivot, and by the end of several jams we saw some impressive walls being built, keeping that jammer from passing, and we saw some grand slams happening as jammers lapped the pack and the opposing jammer more than once.
We ended the day doing something very important: decorating our jerseys and helmets. One great thing about derby is how you can show your personality on your gear. Stickers, markers, letters and numbers were all over the place.
Finally we learned our Secret Chant, which we can't reveal to you yet because that would require us to share our team name with you. It's so cool, we want to keep it a secret until Friday, when we will make our debut in our first derby scrimmage.
We can't wait till tomorrow!
